What Is “DPI”?
Dots Per Inch. It’s a measure of the resolution of an image. It indicates how many dots of ink (or pixels, in digital photography) are in a linear inch of the photo. The higher the DPI, the higher the resolution.
300 DPI produces excellent quality, either onscreen or in print, for a standard size image. We recommend 300 DPI, due to its high quality and affordable pricing.
Higher DPI. We can scan your photos at higher DPI levels, up to 1,200. However, these higher levels take more time to scan, and carry higher fees. If you plan to print any of your scanned photos in enlarged formats (8” x 10” or larger), consider 600 DPI for just those scans.
Please call or email us if you have questions about DPI and would like to discuss your options.
Photo Albums?
We will do whatever is easiest for you. If your photos are stored in albums …
… We recommend that you carefully remove them from the albums before you send them to us. Otherwise, shipping and scanning costs will be higher.
… If you’d like us to handle and scan from your albums, we can do that. However, this process takes more time and effort, and would have an impact on fees. Scans from your albums have a cost of $1.19 per photo.
